Psychology

At Livology, we’re redefining mental health support with a team that not only holds professional expertise but shares similar lived experiences.

Our compassionate psychologists bring a unique depth of understanding, having walked similar paths, providing a connection that goes beyond the clinical. Your journey is not just heard but understood, fostering a therapeutic alliance that research indicates is pivotal in achieving positive outcomes.

Did you know?

Research shows that a staggering 80% of the success in therapy is attributed to the quality of the relationship with your clinician.

Discover the difference of being supported by professionals who don’t just empathise but genuinely relate to your experiences. Livology can provide a mental health journey rooted in real understanding and connection.

We prioritise a client-centred approach: Your journey is unique, and we're here to support you every step of the way.

Using an evidence based approach, and sitting firmly within a positive psychology framework, Livology draws largely on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT).

Our Focus

Livology Psychologists focus on working with clients as they:

  • adjust to a new diagnosis

  • examine issues of self-identity

  • develop stress management techniques

  • deal with symptoms of grief, anxiety or depression

  • reframe their perspective of self-management and living well with a chronic condition or disability

  • develop communication strategies with supports

  • seek renewed purpose in life

  • build resilience and adopt healthy routines

  • explore and understand ableism, and how it impacts them

  • practice problem focussed coping strategies

  • embrace self-compassion

The Goal

Liel, Seona and Sally will work with you to help you shift your thinking, reframe your way of addressing a challenge, or work through an issue with a set goal in mind.  We will ask you to name what you want to get out of sessions with us, and then we will work with you to achieve the outcomes.

Treatment Techniques

Using an evidence based approach, and sitting firmly within a positive psychology framework, Livology draws largely on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT). Livology works with clients to increase their ability to be strategic while moving forward in life.

But what does being strategic mean?

It’s about making a realistic assessment of the present. And being active and engaged in managing the challenges you are facing looking forward. Not being an optimist, nor a pessimist. But an optimistic realist.

    • General reason for seeking treatment (e.g. health condition, anxiety, relationship issues)

  • Sessions with a Psychologist are 50 minutes long.

  • All of our sessions are conducted via Zoom, so your session will be in a location of your choice. Most people choose a secure and private space like a room in their house, where they can access a computer, tablet, iPad or phone.

  • Generally people work with a psychologist on a weekly or fortnightly basis to begin with. Sometimes sessions are extended to monthly based on the needs and wants of the client.

  • Once you have registered your interest in having a session, our next available psychologist will call you to introduce themselves. You can ask them a few questions, they might ask you why you are wanting some support, and then you can book a time with them if you feel comfortable to do so.

It is so important that you feel comfortable with your psychologist - research shows a staggering 80% of the success in therapy is attributed to the quality of the relationship with your psychologist – so we want you to feel good about who you are working with!

There is never any pressure to go on and book a session.

  • It is normal to have mixed feelings about your first session. You might have a range of emotions and want to tell us everything, or you might not know what to say at all.

Don’t stress – we will guide you through with some questions so that we get a better idea of who you are, what you’re struggling with, what you would like to achieve, and how we can get there together.

You can ask any questions at all along the way – we work very much as a team with our clients so we can achieve best outcomes.

  • Nothing! You are welcome to just turn up, and we can get started together.

However, some people prefer to do some ‘pre-work’ and write down a few things about challenges they are facing, or goals they might have for the work we do together.

We don’t mind – whatever feels right for you.

  • Livology works with people from all over Australia. As long as you have access to the internet, we can work with you.

This includes self-managed and plan-managed NDIS participants.

Fees & Rebates

  • The fees for NDIS clients are $214.41 per 50 minute session (in accordance with the NDIS Price Guide).

For Medicare/Private clients, the fees are $183.35 per 50 minute session.

This is a lesser fee as we are aware that it comes with an out of pocket cost to our clients. Invoices are sent the business day after your appointment, with payment to be made via direct deposit as detailed on the invoice.

For those with a valid referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan from your GP, Medicare rebates of $93.35 are available. Once you have paid the full fee, we will process the Medicare subsidy for you so that it is automatically put back into your account ASAP.

Please note: Livology psychologists charge significantly less than the Australian Psychological Society recommends ($300 per session as of 2024).

  • To see a psychologist and claim the Medicare rebate of $93.35 per session for up to 10 sessions per year, you need to have a valid GP referral and Mental Health Treatment Plan from a GP.

Clients wanting to see us privately or through the NDIS do not need a referral.

  • We recommend that you make a double appointment with your GP as they will need to ask you a series of questions about your thoughts and feelings and may ask you to complete a brief questionnaire.

It is important to be open with your GP in this process. Your GP can then create a MHTP and provide a GP referral letter. Your GP will provide these to you and you can send these directly to us at hello@livology.com.au, or you can request that your GP do this for you.

In order to be able to access the Medicare rebate, this has to occur before your initial appointment.

  • We charge a cancellation fee to anyone who cancels their session with less than 24 hours notice.

I mean, not the first time, because we are all human and stuff happens… but we need to make sure we are able to provide appointment times to people who need them and are committed to attending.

  • Yes. All NDIS reports are charge at the rate of one hour per letter/report.

For those wanting letters/reports unrelated to the NDIS, each is charged at $90 for a short letter, or $183.35 for a longer letter/report.

All letters/reports will take approximately 5-7 business days to provide to you. Please note that letters/reports do not attract a Medicare rebate.
